Salam (May God Bless You), today my article is about contraception. You will learn about it as you read along. I will provide pictures for good understanding. Also this article is not for children. If any child reads it I am not to be blamed.
Contraception is more commonly known as birth control. This simply is a way of avoiding pregnancy. Many couples do it because they don’t want children while others might already have a family and do not want more children. There are many ways of doing this:
To prevent pregnancy naturally couples have to keep an eye on the menstrual cycle. Mating during the mid of the menstrual cycle, in fertile phase, can cause fertilization of the ovum, causing pregnancy. However, If mating is done during the infertile phase couples can avoid pregnancy. But this method is unreliable and females might still get pregnant during the less fertile phase.
There are three ways.
The use of condom can prevent the sperm cells to enter the vagina and collected in the condom. It is an effective method and cheap. Also it is successful in preventing sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDs and Syphilis.
The use of diaphragm is also very successful in preventing pregnancy. The diaphragm can block the cervix by locking on the rim. This does not allow the sperm cells to enter the uterus cavity. It can stay in place for 7 til 8 hours after mating. However this should be recommended by a doctor after a female passes medical exam.
The intrauterine device (IUD) is placed in the uterus lining. It prevents the embryo from implanting on the uterus wall. Some IUD would release the hormone progesterone which thickens the mucus in the cervix preventing the sperm cells to even enter the uterus cavity. This can remain in place for several years and is also effective.
Spermicides are used to kill the sperm cells. It is mainly in the form of cream and foam. It is rubbed on a diaphragm or condom to prevent fertilization.
Hormones may be injected to a female or may be ingested in the form of a pill or be rubbed on the skin. The pill used is oral contraceptive pill and may be a combined pill or a mini pill. A combined pill has both hormones progesterone and estrogen which is why FSH and LH production is reduced in the body. This prevents ovulation. The mini pill has the hormone progesterone which thickens the mucus in the cervix preventing the sperms cells from entering the uterus lining.
Surgical methods are rather permanent. It is done in two ways. One being the cutting of the sperm duct and tying it up to prevent the sperm form even reaching the penis. This is called vasectomy. In the case of females the oviducts are cut to prevent the ovaries from being fertilized. It is called tubal ligation.
